We see shapes everywhere!

Our math shared poem was "Cindy the Circle!" We highlighted the rhyming and beginning sounds. We illustrated our own story called "Shape Monster, Shape Monster!"

In Social Studies we learned about community helpers. This was extended into the Writing Center. We wrote stories about how community helpers help us in our neighborhood.

Our featured characters in Dramatic Play this week were pirates! While in this center, we designed pirate ships as a writing response.

During Guided Reading we are building concepts of print, such as reading left to right, pointing to each word, and using pictures and beginning sounds as clues.

Matching pictures, words, and tools while learning about community helpers!

We know how to graph!

This week in math we have been learning how to graph and to group objects using alike and different attributes. In science we have been using describing words in our science journals while writing about sea creatures. We learned very interesting facts, such as how an octupus shoots ink so he can hide and stay safe. During readers workshop we have been practicing rhyming and developing concepts of print. Our favorite song this week was "Rhyme and Move" by Jack Hartman! In writers workshop, we have been adding sight words to our writing such as "I see the..." At the Listening Center, our book on tape was "Aladdin" and our featured characters at the Dramatic Play Center this week were a dog and a lion!

We are working with a partner to graph how many friends would want a guppy as a pet, and how many would want a goldfish as a pet.

In our math center we are working together to match a number, numbered dots, the number words, and a number of objects

In our math center we are matching the number/the number word with the number of objects. We are also practicing our sight words "I see."

In our science journals we are using descibing words to write about sea creatures. Wow! In this journal he used the describing words "smooth and sharp" to describe his sea creature. Great job!

We are authors too! We added our own class books that we wrote and illustrated to our bookshelf.

In the Reading Nook Center we are reading our classbooks

At the Magic Board Center our friend is doing an excellent job writing a story about her family and friends!

"Which one does not belong? How is it different than the others?" We are using "Math-Talk" to talk about our reasoning.

Goldfish, guppies, and shells!

In science this week we have been learning about goldfish, guppies, and shells. We have been writing in our science journals, by adding new learning about our sea creatures. Check out our pictures! We were working with partners to describe the shells and distinguish which sea creatures used these shells as their homes. In reading we are learning to rhyme, read from left to right, point and slide, and other concepts of print. In math, we learned to identify, write, and read numbers 1-5. We are becoming fantastic writers too!

Feeling the texture of the shells

"I see a spiral! This must have been a snail shell!"

Comparing the different sizes

Our friends are practicing to point and slide, reading left to right.

Can you find the rhyming words in Hickory Dickory Dock?

Reading our shared math poem of the week "Buttons"

In math we drew groups of objects and wrote a sentence using the number. We even practiced this in the writing center too!
