Sammy the Seal!

Last week we made some fantastic predictions while reading by looking for the clues in the cover, pictures, and words. We were word detectives and found S sounds around the classroom. We even wrote our own poem about what Sammy the Seal sees. We started planning our own Readers Theater play by sharing ideas for different settings. In math, students practiced to sort items into different groups based on size and shape. We practiced creating patterns too! In science we learned about wiggly worms and loved our "Wiggly Worm" song and dance.
Students played an S game during word study. They move their game piece one space after drawing a card that starts with the /s/ sound. The student who moves their game piece to the end of the snake first wins!

Students acted as word detectives in another word study center to find words that start with the /s/ sound

In dramatic play students dressed as a police officer and wrote a story about how they solved a problem in the community.

"Look at all the /s/ sounds I found!"

Getting cozy in the Reading Nook!

During guided reading this group read "Balloons" and used the magnets to rhyme by substituting a new beginning sound
We love reading!

Students shared their ideas of different settings

Students glued words together to create meaningful sentences about their day.

Check out the Sammy the Seal poem we wrote. We shared the magic marker to write the last word in each line.
