Welcome To Our Classroom!

Here is a sneakpeak into our centers. Students learn at the following centers everyday, building academic and social skills in small groups. When you ask your child about their day, ask which centers they went to!

At the listening center, children listen to books on tape and draw a picture of what they see in their minds. This builds the skill of visualizing while reading.

At the reading nook, children read books and complete a writing response. They will be building their own personal book bins full of "just right" books for them! Please bring your child's favorite book to the first day of school and it can be the first addition to their book bin.

At the computer center children play educational games and even watch educational video clips about what we are learning about!

At the word study center, students write or make words with magnets, letter cards, and other manipulatives. At this center children are building skills such as letter and sound identification, rhyming, sight words, beginning and ending sounds, and letter/word sorting.

At the dramatic play center, there will be featured costumes in the costume closet each week. Children will work together to write a detailed story of what their characters are doing. This prepares students for writing Reader's Theater plays which we will act out throughout the year.

Our magic board talks! When students touch the magic pen to a letter, it tells them to draw something which starts with this letter in a certain color.

At our guided reading center, Miss Voss works with a small group to build reading strategies. We all read the same books together.

At the writing center, students write a story using dry erase boards or paper, pencil, and crayons. They then share their writing with the class. Our writing suprise box is full of writing ideas!
