Soon to be First Graders!

We are excited to be entering first grade soon! This week we have been conducting science experiments, focusing on the properties of mixtures. We mixed oil, water, and syrup and learned how liquids rise to the top of mixtures if they are lighter. We made lava in a cup and mixed our own puff paint with special ingredients. In reading we did an author study on Beatrix Potter. We loved her Peter Rabbit books with the beautiful illustrations. We made thoughtful predictions and wrote our own class book called the "Adventures of Peter Rabbit." In Writers Workshop we are putting the "frosting" and the "sprinkles" in our writing to make it ever better by developing the characters and setting. In math we are continuing to practice adding, subtracting, and solving problems. Our last three weeks will be spent creating memory books for kindergarten, and celebrating all the amazing things we have learned!

Science Experiment! Making lava in a cup!

Conferencing with a classmate during Writers Workshop makes our writing even better!

Independently reading and completing a retelling graphic organizer during Literacy Centers. This writing response prompts us to write the beginning, middle, and end of the story.

Completing the inferring graphic organizer during Literacy Centers, by writing
"I see...I wonder...I infer."

In social studies we learned all about maps! In centers we went on the computer and completed the interactive map of the United States.

We planted flowers during science! We wrote a letter to our parents about what a flower needs to stay healthy.
